‘Not Ovary Acting’: Stand With Angela

Medical and surgical abortions were legalised in Tasmania in 2013.  However, the three clinics in the State closed within five years. It was claimed funding was inadequate.

In June 2018, Cricket Australia terminated Angela Williamson’s employment after she called the situation in Tasmania a ‘disgrace’ on social media.  She also criticised the State Government for rejecting a motion to re-open abortion services.  Ms Williamson’s lawyers announced she would sue Cricket Australia and a confidential settlement was subsequently reached.

The  “Not Ovary Acting – Stand with Angela” rally was held in Hobart on 5 August 2018 to support Ms Williamson and demand state-wide access to termination services. Speakers included Jessica Munday, Secretary of Unions Tasmania, Jo Siejka MLC, and Rosalie Woodruff MP.
